There are two worlds – our world, and Billy’s and when things get really bad in Billy’s world he escapes to the secret clearing in the woods, near Butler’s farm. Only here can Billy be his real self – watched over by the shadowy figure of his guardian angel – imagining himself as the new messiah, happily making sacrifices to his God and cutting up road-kill. All is going well in Billy’s strange world until a pretty girl arrives and ruins everything. The outcome is fatal! From now on, life won’t be easy for young Billy, but then, if you’re the new messiah – no one said it would be. Michael Cameron - author of the best selling In Harm's Way – explores the mind of a teenager who has lost his way in the madness, humor and despair of the sexually liberated 1970s. BILLY CHRIST is both a psychological thriller and a coming-of-age story set in a world of pop-music, TV commercials and the English countryside. BILLY CHRIST an intriguing tale spun with humor and drama, and a Gothic lust for gore and horror.

Billy Christ Michael Cameron Books

The best thing about this book is that I don't usually enjoy reading in this genre, but when a book is this good, it doesn't matter what genre it's in; it HAS to be finished!

What a ride! Billy Christ takes you down the dark and twisted path of a boy named Billy who believes that he has been chosen by God to be the next Christ, or something like him. Unfortunately for him, Billy finds himself in situations that occasionally require a sin here and there, and each step he takes seems to lead further and further down a twisted and dangerous spiral. This book is recommended for adult audiences who love mysteries, thrillers, psychological suspense/thrillers, and very well written fiction.

I loved reading this book, and I'm rating it at 5 stars for a host of reasons. It's extremely well written, and the way the story unfolds made me so unsure of who to root for by the end that I started rooting for quite a few of the characters, and completely bought into the storyline. I felt for billy, and thought that he should get to be with Diana, but his disturbing rituals and obvious mental issues made me unsure of how good an idea that would be. Then there's his obsession with Diana's mum, Mrs. Watson, which unfolds in ways that I certainly didn't predict. By the time certain secrets are revealed toward the end, you'll have a deeper understanding of why Billy is the way he is, and you just don't know if you want him to get caught or not! The pages kept turning faster and faster throughout the read, and I found myself missing a little sleep just to find out what would happen next.

There aren't many negatives to list for this book; hence the 5 star rating. It does contain adult content, which I generally try to skim over, but even that was done far more tastefully than many other books I can think of, and it's done in a way that seems essential to the overall plot, character motivations, and understanding of Billy's psychosis.

In summary, I am glad for having read Billy Christ, and I'm placing Michael Cameron on my list of authors to watch for more great reads in the future.

Thanks for an excellent read!

Billy Christ Michael Cameron Books Reviews

`Billy Christ' is an interesting coming-of-age story told from the perspective of two teenagers, and later, one of the teenagers as he enters adult hood and the woman who fills his fantasies. Billy Christ, the teenager, is a smart, devout religious `fanatic' who believes there are two worlds - his and everyone else's. I can only think of one word to describe Billy - sociopath. But is he? Young Billy meets a girl, the first girl he's interacted with, who is from the other world, but fills his world with contradictions as he begins to question his beliefs, although he continues to have visions and look to God and his Guardian Angel for guidance. Diana, as we learn in her journal entries, can't figure Billy out, but is intrigued by him and his strange ways. She makes Billy think, and hurts him in ways that teenage girls do, by betraying him with one of the boys he detests the most and saying things she regrets in the heat of the moment. Diana feels awful about how the way she treated Billy and has to find him to explain...but that was the biggest mistake she made in her life. As Billy grows into a man, he continues to have healthy fantasies of Diana's mother, who he fell in love with the moment he met her, and attempts to turn those fantasies into reality. As an adult, has Billy really changed from the boy he was, or is he just good at hiding that boy beneath his Cambridge education and musical career interests?

I enjoyed reading `Billy Christ' and the different perspectives Michael Cameron presents to develop his characters from both Billy's world and the other world. After midway through the story, I couldn't stop reading it. The mix of Billy's strange, obsessive behaviors and Diana's girly, more `common,' outlook provide a mix of emotions and 70's nostalgia. The second half of the book offers a different, adult point of view, which makes us wonder what happened to Billy? To Diana? To Diana's mother?

Please read this book to the last page because, as Billy finally learns as his two worlds collide, things are not what they seem...
